Construction, Completion and Maintenance of Khorfakkan Western Bypass Road including Utility Services

National Contracting delivered the construction, completion and maintenance of the Khorfakkan Western Bypass Road, a fully integrated highway scheme combining roadworks with the diversion and protection of essential utility services. Executed under the supervision of consultant CH2M Hill – Halcrow, the project paired a complete pavement build-up with surface water drainage, road lighting, and culvert structures to deliver a resilient, all-weather corridor. The bypass was completed within a demanding nine-month programme to the standards of the Ministry of Public Works.

Scope of works

  • Full road build-up including earthworks, 200mm sub base, 150mm road base, 120mm base course and 40mm wearing course for carriageway and shoulder
  • Roundabout kerbs, concrete barriers, guard rails and rip-rap protection
  • Surface water drainage with 250-400mm diameter mains, gully connections, diversion channel and gabion mattress
  • Gas service protection via box culvert over the existing gas main
  • Road lighting with 100mm conduit, lighting columns and foundations, luminaires, feeder pillars and cabling
  • Box culvert and pipe culvert structures
