    The project is located at the eastern part of Dubai Urban Area. The road corridor is located between Shiekh Zayed Road to the west and Emirates Road to the east running east-west direction with approximate length of 25km. The project has been divided into several contracts this is contract 1 of the project.

    The project of work of this contract is to upgrade the existing segment of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street in Al Quoz Area from the intersection of First Al Khail St. till the interchange of Al Khail Road with Latifa Bint Hamdan Street with a total length of approximate 3km.

    The Scope of works consists:

    • Junction (1) : The existing signalized intersection between Latifa Bint Hamdan Street ( D67) and Al Asayel Street (D72) is proposed as a single point uban Interchange with At Grade Signal and providing first – level bridge along Latifa Bint Hamdan Street ( three lanes in each direction) and a second-level bridge along Al Asayel Street ( Two lanes in each directions).
    • Junctions (2) : Maintain the existing cloverleaf interchange at Al Khail Road ( E44) intersection with Latifa Bint Hamdan Street while proposing a left turn ramp from the direction of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street to the CD Road of Al Khail Road in the northbound ( NB) direction.

    The work also includes the provision of street lighting services to the proposed roadway facilities, crossing ducts for different utilities and the relocation and/or protection of existing services affected by the proposed highway scheme based on coordination and approval of the respective utility authorities. It also includes the study, design and construction of three pedestrian bridges.

    The scope of work was comprised of complete rehabilitation of South Runway 13R-31L, new taxiways in between threshold 13R, new Airfield Ground Lighting system which will be connected to the existing AGL Infrastructure and substations where new CCR’s will be installed as required. A complete runway strip up to 160m from the centerline of the runway in both north and south directions was re-graded and provided with a surface protection layer. They made also new drainage line located within the northern strip, east of existing cross taxiways G and H and new drainage system within the runway. Replacement of new cabling, transformer, addressable control units and CCR’s applicable to the existing AGL substation was also included in the scope of work for the above project.

By October of 2014, the runway was opened for Public use. Private Plane of His Highness Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Sharjah Ruler, was the first who take off and landed.
