Sharjah International Airport New Runway at 250m Separation — Civil Works and Airside Systems

National Contracting delivered the full civil works and airside systems for a new runway constructed at 250-metre separation at Sharjah International Airport, executed under the supervision of consultants CH2M Hill – Halcrow. The AED 308 million programme integrated earthworks, polymer-modified bituminous pavements, comprehensive airfield drainage, and the ductwork and foundations supporting airfield ground lighting, power, and communications. Completed over 26 months, the works also encompassed two fully equipped substation buildings with main and standby power systems and a complete fibre-optic and copper communications network serving the operational airside.
Scope of works
- Drainage works comprising catch pits, pipes, soak-aways, and erosion protection
- Earthworks and pavements including polymer-modified bituminous binder and wearing courses, runway-strip surface protection, and pavement marking
- Pits and ducts for airfield ground lighting, power supply, and communications networks, including secondary ducts to inset pavement lights
- Foundations for airside equipment installations and construction of airside roads
- Two substation buildings with main and standby power, 11kV distribution, standby generators, bulk fuel storage, UPS, LV distribution, and earthing/lightning protection
- Complete communications network with two fibre-optic ring circuits (NAV-B & MET-C) and a multi-core copper ring circuit
